KARACHI: Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi hosted a distinguished Easter ceremony at the Governor House on April 5, welcoming members of the Christian community along with prominent national and international guests.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Nihal Hashmi said the event aimed to promote interfaith harmony, tolerance, and national unity. He praised the Christian community for its significant role in the country’s development and reiterated that the doors of the Governor House remain open to followers of all religions. “We share equally in the joys of Easter with our Christian brothers and sisters. As envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam, every citizen has the right to celebrate their festivals freely,” he added.
The ceremony was attended by the Consul General of China Yang Yundong, Deputy High Commissioner of the United Kingdom Lance Domm, diplomatic staff from Russia and Germany, Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Khel Das Kohistani, Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Anthony Naveed, Bishop Frederick John, and other dignitaries.
Following government austerity policies, the event was held with simplicity. Governor Nihal Hashmi extended heartfelt Easter greetings to the Christian community and joined the guests in cutting the Easter cake.
Special prayers were offered for national development, prosperity, peace, and interfaith harmony. Minister Khel Das Kohistani, Deputy High Commissioner Lance Domm, Deputy Speaker Anthony Naveed, and Bishop Frederick John also addressed the gathering, lauding the spirit of brotherhood, tolerance, and mutual respect.
