TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran was prepared to reach a balanced and fair agreement, framing any potential deal as essential for ensuring long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.
His remarks came during a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which the two leaders reviewed the status of ongoing Iran–US talks being held in Islamabad. The discussions are seen as part of wider diplomatic efforts to ease tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme and regional role.
According to Iranian officials, Pezeshkian indicated that progress in negotiations would depend heavily on Washington’s willingness to return to internationally recognised legal frameworks. He suggested that a breakthrough was achievable if the United States aligned its approach with global norms and commitments.
Russian media reports said Putin reaffirmed Moscow’s support for diplomatic engagement, stressing Russia’s readiness to continue facilitating dialogue and reconciliation efforts across the region. Russia has positioned itself as a key intermediary in recent Middle East diplomacy, maintaining ties with both Tehran and Washington.
In a separate statement, Pezeshkian criticised what he described as unilateral policies by the United States, arguing that respect for Iran’s sovereignty and the rights of its people would be a necessary foundation for any agreement. He added that such a shift could open viable pathways towards a negotiated settlement.
The renewed diplomatic exchanges come at a time of heightened regional sensitivity, with multiple stakeholders closely watching whether the Islamabad talks can produce a framework capable of reducing tensions and preventing further escalation.
