KHAIRPUR: A large quantity of hazardous hospital waste was seized during a raid on a scrap warehouse in Khairpur, officials said.
The operation was carried out by assistant commissioner Khairpur, Umamah Solangi, along with assistant mukhtiarkar Shiraz Hussain Phulpoto. During the raid, used syringes, IV drips and other infectious medical materials were recovered.

Officials said the waste was allegedly being illegally recycled into low-quality plastic products, describing the practice as extremely dangerous for human health, the environment and public safety.
According to initial findings, the activity was in clear violation of the Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014. Authorities said legal proceedings against those involved had been expedited, while steps were being taken to safely dispose of the confiscated hazardous material.

The raid was conducted with the joint support of the environment department, revenue department and police.
Umamah Solangi issued strict directives for indiscriminate action against individuals involved in the illegal purchase, sale or recycling of medical waste. She also instructed all private and government hospitals, clinics and laboratories to dispose of medical waste strictly in line with standard operating procedures.
Officials said monitoring of scrap warehouses across the city would be further strengthened, with immediate action to be taken in case of violations. The administration also urged the public to report suspicious activities, reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy on the matter.
