SUKKUR: The Health Department Khairpur organised a free medical camp at Central Jail Khairpur on Labor Day, where over 200 inmates were examined and treated.

Specialist doctors from various disciplines participated in the camp. Prisoners were screened for hepatitis, malaria and other illnesses, and were provided treatment and medicines on the spot.
District Health Officer Dr Kaleemullah Shaikh visited the camp and also inspected the facilities at the jail dispensary. Jail Superintendent Naib Ali Banbhan briefed him on the available healthcare arrangements.
Dr Shaikh said that providing healthcare facilities to the public remained a top priority. He added that during his visit to Central Jail Khairpur, it became clear that inmates required improved medical attention, which led to the organisation of the camp where more than 200 prisoners were treated and provided free medication.
He said it was the department’s responsibility to reach those who could not access regular health centres, adding that healthcare for inmates was essential for a healthier society. He stressed that timely diagnosis and treatment not only saved lives but also helped prevent the spread of disease.
The DHO said the Health Department would continue such medical camps and awareness drives to ensure access to quality healthcare for all. He also urged the public to adopt preventive health measures and undergo regular check-ups for early detection of illnesses.
Additional DHO Dr Abdul Haq Maitlo, Dr Shahid Hussain Khaskheli and other officials were also present on the occasion.
