TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran remains willing to pursue a diplomatic solution to ongoing regional tensions, but stressed that Iran will not compromise on its national rights under any circumstances.
According to the Iranian presidency, President Pezeshkian made the remarks during a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, where both leaders discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East, including developments in the Strait of Hormuz, the temporary ceasefire and negotiations involving Iran and the United States.
President Pezeshkian said Iran remained committed to diplomatic engagement within the framework of international law and was prepared to continue talks aimed at reducing tensions and restoring stability. However, he warned that repeated aggressive actions by the United States had seriously undermined Tehran’s trust in the negotiation process.
Referring to recent incidents during the dialogue process, the Iranian president said two attacks carried out against Iran while negotiations were under way were viewed in Tehran as “a stab in the back”, signalling deep frustration within the Iranian leadership over the timing and nature of the actions.
The conversation also focused on the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route that has remained at the centre of regional security concerns. Both sides exchanged views on maintaining stability in the waterway and preventing further escalation in the Gulf region.
Officials said the two leaders additionally discussed the initial ceasefire arrangement and mediation efforts reportedly being pursued by Pakistan to encourage dialogue and reduce tensions between regional and international actors.
The call comes amid continuing uncertainty in the Middle East, where diplomatic channels remain active despite heightened military and political tensions involving Iran, the United States and allied countries.
