ISTANBUL: Türkiye has introduced its first intercontinental ballistic missile, “Yildirim Han”, during the ongoing SAHA 2026 defence exhibition in Istanbul.
According to Turkish media reports, the missile was developed by the research and development centre of the Turkish Ministry of Defence and is capable of striking targets up to 6,000 kilometres away at speeds reaching Mach 25, or 25 times the speed of sound.
Reports said the “Yildirim Han” is equipped with four rocket engines and uses liquid nitrogen tetroxide as fuel, placing it among Türkiye’s most advanced missile platforms.
The missile was showcased at the SAHA 2026 International Defence and Aerospace Exhibition, where major Turkish defence companies and government institutions are presenting new technologies in multiple sectors.
Defence analysts said the unveiling comes as Türkiye continues to expand its military industry through heavy investment in missile systems, drones, air defence, aviation and space technologies. Experts believe the new missile could significantly enhance Ankara’s long-range strategic capabilities and strengthen its position in the regional defence sector.
The development also reflects Türkiye’s broader push for greater self-reliance in defence production as global security competition intensifies.
