HONG KONG: A foreign publication has said Pakistan is gradually consolidating its position as a “middle power” in global politics, arguing that its diplomatic approach and strategic geography have helped elevate its profile in an increasingly fragmented international order.
In an analysis published by Asia Times, the country was described as having strengthened its global standing through what it called a pattern of “balanced diplomacy”, enabling it to maintain engagement with competing power centers while avoiding exclusive alignment with any single bloc. The report suggested that such positioning was becoming more valuable as global politics shifted towards multipolar competition.
It noted that Pakistan’s geographical location continued to play a central role in shaping its strategic relevance, placing it at the intersection of key regional and global interests. The publication said Islamabad’s approach of “multi-alignment” had been viewed in some quarters as a pragmatic foreign policy tool, allowing it to preserve working relationships across diverse geopolitical divides.
The analysis observed that Pakistan’s diplomatic visibility had increased amid evolving international alignments, particularly during periods of heightened tension between major powers. It referred to instances in which Pakistan had been perceived as a channel for communication between Washington and Tehran, suggesting that such interactions had contributed to its image as a facilitator rather than a passive observer in regional dynamics.
The report concluded that Pakistan’s evolving foreign policy posture reflected a broader global trend in which mid-sized states were seeking greater autonomy and influence within an increasingly competitive international system, where diplomatic flexibility was becoming as significant as traditional hard power.
