LAHORE: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan said Pakistan-China friendship had entered a new era of economic partnership and cooperation, noting that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif the country was moving steadily towards economic stability and industrial development.
He made the remarks while delivering the welcome address at the Pakistan-China Business-to-Business Conference held at a local hotel in Lahore on Saturday. The event brought together 106 representatives from 74 Chinese companies, representatives of 136 Pakistani firms and 252 business delegates, alongside investors, industrialists and members of the wider business community from both countries.
Haroon Akhtar Khan said Pakistan-China relations were rooted in trust, consistency and a shared vision, adding that growing B2B engagements were opening new economic opportunities. He said the outcomes of the Prime Minister’s visit to China last year were now beginning to materialise, while Chinese investor confidence in Pakistan continued to strengthen.
He said Pakistan was emerging as a promising investment destination and that the government was taking practical steps to promote industrial growth, boost exports and facilitate business activity. He added that large-scale reforms were under way, including the implementation of the National Industrial Policy and National Tariff Policy aimed at reducing the cost of doing business.
The conference was attended by Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi, Secretary for Industries and Production Saif Anjum, SMEDA CEO Nadia J. Seth, Engineering Development Board CEO Hammad Mansoor, PIDC CEO Rizwan Bhatti and other senior officials.
