LAHORE: Pakistan’s debutant batter Azan Awais said he was delighted after scoring a century on his Test debut, becoming the 14th Pakistani player to achieve the milestone. He made the comments after the third day of the opening Test against Bangladesh on Sunday.
Awais thanked God for his performance and said he faced initial difficulty but settled down to play with confidence. He said his partnership with Imam-ul-Haq was crucial, adding that the senior batter guided him throughout the innings and helped reduce pressure during key moments.
The young batter said Pakistan would aim to restrict Bangladesh to a low total, noting that the match had so far moved in favour of the home side. He also recalled being struck on the helmet by a delivery from Nahid Rana, saying he lost consciousness for a few minutes before recovering and continuing his innings.
Awais described his maiden Test century as a memorable achievement and said he celebrated it in a simple manner. He added that he had played 33 first-class matches over the past two years and always dreamed of representing Pakistan at the highest level.
He credited domestic cricket for preparing him for international conditions and said his father and coach Mansoor Amjad supported him throughout his career. Awais admitted to early nervousness but said teammates encouraged him during his innings.
Meanwhile, fellow debutant Abdullah Fazal said he felt pressure at the start of his innings and took more than 20 deliveries to score his first run. He added that the pressure eased after hitting his first boundary and said he enjoyed his debut experience. Both players said Pakistan would aim to bowl out Bangladesh quickly and chase the target successfully.
