KARACHI: Deputy Commissioner West Ali Zulfiqar Memon has said that eliminating polio from District West remains the administration’s top priority, as a new booster vaccination campaign was formally launched.
The campaign was inaugurated at a private school in the district, where children were administered additional polio booster doses at a central ceremony attended by senior officials, including police representatives and health authorities.
Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen immunity among children and close remaining gaps in vaccination coverage in high-risk areas. Health teams will operate across 15 union councils in the district, going door to door as well as working from fixed vaccination centers.
Speaking at the launch, the deputy commissioner urged full cooperation from parents, saying routine immunization is essential to protect children from polio, a disease that still poses a threat in parts of Sindh.
He also directed officials to ensure adequate security for vaccination teams, particularly in sensitive areas, so that every eligible child can be reached without disruption.
Health authorities said children aged between four and ten years will be administered booster doses as part of the targeted drive, which is part of ongoing efforts to make District West polio-free.
