WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has called a high-level National Security meeting as discussions intensify over Iran and possible military and diplomatic options, according to American media reports. Senior officials from defence, intelligence and foreign policy institutions are expected to attend.
The meeting is likely to include Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine.
According to news agency reports citing officials, Trump is increasingly considering military options aimed at increasing pressure on Iran to secure concessions over its nuclear programme. The discussions are expected to include a range of strategic choices, including reviving “Project Freedom” and potential strikes on remaining targets inside Iran.
Reports suggest the administration is evaluating both diplomatic and military pathways as part of its broader Iran policy. Trump has previously stated that the ceasefire situation is “on life support” and has also claimed that only the United States and China have the capability to retrieve Iranian nuclear material.
The developments come amid escalating regional tensions and ongoing concerns over nuclear negotiations and security stability in the Middle East.
