KARACHI: On International Museum Day, a cultural ceremony was held at the historic Quaid-e-Azam House Museum in Karachi, where officials and stakeholders gathered to underline the role of museums in safeguarding Sindh’s cultural memory and promoting heritage tourism.
The event took place under the auspices of the Culture, Tourism, Antiquities & Archives Department, Government of Sindh and brought together senior representatives from the province’s cultural and tourism institutions. Among those present were Provincial Minister for Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Archives Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, along with senior bureaucrats and officials including the Director General of Antiquities and Archaeology Abdul Fatah Shaikh, Managing Director of the Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) Fayaz Ali Shah, and Provincial Secretary Khair Muhammad Kalwar.
Officials used the occasion to reiterate the importance of preserving museums and archaeological sites as living repositories of history rather than static monuments. They said Sindh’s cultural identity, shaped over centuries, required sustained protection through institutional support, public engagement and responsible tourism development.
The gathering also included representatives from the hospitality sector and tourism stakeholders, including the Pakistan Hotels Association. Industry figures said closer cooperation between cultural institutions and tourism operators would help position Sindh more prominently on the domestic and international tourism map.
Among those in attendance was Yasir Ahmed, general manager of Hotel Mehran Karachi, who welcomed the initiative and said such commemorations helped reinforce awareness of Sindh’s historical depth and tourism potential. He noted that museums played a vital role in connecting younger generations with their heritage while also offering opportunities for cultural diplomacy.
