DALLAS: Three people have been killed after a gas explosion triggered a fire at an apartment complex in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, officials said. The incident has left several others injured as emergency teams continue search and recovery operations.
According to foreign media reports, the victims include two women and a child. Three injured individuals were taken to hospital, with one reported to be in critical condition. Two others suffered minor injuries and received treatment on their own.
Deputy Fire Chief Mark deBerry said rescue efforts have now moved into a recovery phase and could continue for several more hours as crews carefully search through debris.
Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson Jason Evans said teams would remain at the site overnight to conduct a full inspection of the damaged building. Assistant Fire Chief James Ross confirmed that the fire had been brought under control, though firefighters were still working at the scene.
Energy company Atmos Energy said the blast was triggered after an underground gas pipeline was damaged during construction activity by a third-party crew not affiliated with the company. Gas supply to the affected area was immediately shut off.
Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson expressed sorrow over the tragedy and urged residents to pray for the victims and emergency responders.
