KARACHI:Water supply to Karachi has once again been disrupted after a forced power shutdown at the Dhabeji Pumping Station, according to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).
A KWSC spokesperson said the interruption occurred after K-Electric carried out an emergency shutdown to address a critical fault in Power Transformer No. 1 at the Dhabeji Grid Station.
The power outage began at approximately 6:30pm on Saturday and affected operations at one of the city’s key water supply facilities.
As a result of the shutdown, 10 out of the 21 pumping units at the Dhabeji Pumping Station went offline, significantly reducing water transmission capacity and disrupting supply to several parts of Karachi.
The outage has raised concerns among residents already facing periodic water shortages in different areas of the city.
According to KWSC, K-Electric had initially informed officials that the electricity suspension would last for about one hour.
However, no confirmed timeline has yet been provided regarding the complete restoration of power at the facility.
The water utility said its management is closely monitoring the situation and remains in continuous contact with K-Electric to ensure electricity is restored as soon as possible.
Officials added that normal water supply would gradually resume once power is fully restored and all pumping units become operational again.Residents in affected areas have been advised to use water carefully until the supply system returns to normal.
