SHIGAR:: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has alleged that nine of his party’s seats were “stolen” in the previous elections, expressing hope that no seat would be taken away this time.
Addressing a public gathering in Shigar, he said the PPP continues to demand free and transparent elections in Gilgit-Baltistan. He urged supporters to ensure accountability at the ballot box and referred to electoral forms used in the process, saying that while voters should rely on official documentation, arrangements against irregularities would be handled politically.
Bhutto Zardari said the PPP’s manifesto focuses on securing the rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and ensuring their constitutional and political empowerment. He added that real public representation would only be achieved when elections in Gilgit-Baltistan are held in sync with general elections in Pakistan.
He said generations in the region had supported the PPP and credited the party’s historical leadership for advancing constitutional development and national strength. Referring to former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, he said the party founder had given Pakistan its constitution and laid the foundation for national development policies.
The PPP chairman further claimed that efforts to marginalise his party had repeatedly failed due to public support. He also highlighted development models such as Thar Coal, saying decentralised governance had benefited local communities and the wider economy.
He concluded by saying that empowering local people would lead to economic progress in the region and reaffirmed his party’s commitment to continued engagement with Gilgit-Baltistan.
