KARACHI: Police in Karachi’s Ibrahim Hyderi area arrested two suspects allegedly involved in motorcycle lifting during a targeted operation based on intelligence, officials said on Monday.
According to a statement issued by Malir District Police, officers from Ibrahim Hyderi Police Station acted on a tip-off and conducted a raid near Ilyas Goth in the Ibrahim Hyderi locality, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
The detained individuals were identified as Muhammad Ali, son of Soof, and Wasim Shehzad, son of Hussain. Police said both suspects were taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in a motorcycle theft network operating in the area.
During the search, police recovered three motorcycles from their possession. Officials further confirmed that one of the recovered motorcycles had been reported stolen in a case registered at Ibrahim Hyderi Police Station.
The case, registered under crime number 423 of 2026, was filed under Section 381A of the Pakistan Penal Code, which relates to theft of motor vehicles. Investigators said the recovery provided a key development in an ongoing probe into motorcycle theft incidents in the locality.
Police said the suspects were shifted into custody for further interrogation. Initial investigation suggested that the individuals may be part of a broader network involved in stealing and reselling motorcycles in different parts of the district, though officials stressed that inquiries were still at an early stage.
Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Anti Vehicle Lifting Cell of District Malir for further investigation. The specialised unit has now taken over the case to trace possible accomplices and determine whether the recovered motorcycles are linked to additional theft cases reported in the city.
Authorities said efforts were continuing to curb motorcycle theft and street crime in the area, adding that targeted operations would remain ongoing in coordination with relevant investigative units.
A spokesperson for Malir Police confirmed the arrests and recovery, stating that law enforcement agencies were committed to taking action against organised vehicle theft groups operating in Karachi.
