KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed the trading week in negative territory as cautious investor sentiment, profit-taking and selling pressure weighed on market performance.
The benchmark KSE-100 Index declined by 6,438 points during the week to close at 175,802 points. The market remained under pressure as investors adopted a careful approach and reduced their exposure amid concerns linked to economic indicators and future policy direction.
According to market data, the KSE-100 Index moved within a wide range of 7,798 points during the trading week. The index touched a high of 181,148 points, while its lowest level was recorded at 173,349 points.
Despite strong trading activity, the market failed to sustain its upward momentum as investors preferred to book profits after recent gains. Analysts said selling activity remained dominant as market participants closely assessed economic developments and corporate performance.
A total of 3.69 billion shares changed hands during the week, with the overall value of traded transactions reaching Rs171 billion. The figures reflected continued investor participation despite the decline in the benchmark index.
The total market capitalisation also witnessed a significant drop, falling by Rs712 billion to close at Rs19.79 trillion by the end of the week. Market analysts said investors would continue to monitor key economic developments in the coming days, including upcoming economic data, expectations surrounding monetary policy decisions, corporate financial results and government measures related to the economy.
They added that market direction would depend on investor confidence, policy clarity and broader economic indicators as traders looked for fresh signals about the future outlook of Pakistan’s equity market.
