KAMBER: The body of a young girl who had been missing for five days was recovered from a pond near Rabari, close to Kamber, prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The deceased was identified as Nighat Jatak, who had reportedly gone missing from the Pir Kamil Qureshi shrine in the Ghaibi Dero area.
According to police, local residents informed authorities after discovering a body in the pond. Officers reached the scene, recovered the remains and shifted them to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kamber for legal formalities and a post-mortem examination.
Police said the body was in a decomposed state when it was recovered. Following the completion of initial medico-legal procedures, the body was handed over to the family for burial.
Investigators said preliminary information indicated that the girl had reportedly been living with a mental health condition. However, they stressed that the exact cause and manner of her death had not yet been established and that no conclusions would be drawn until the post-mortem report was received.
Police said the investigation remained under way and that all aspects of the case were being examined.
The girl’s death has left her family and relatives in mourning. Her father, Abdul Hayee Brohi, appealed to the authorities to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation and ensure that the facts surrounding the incident are established.
Police said further details would be released after the post-mortem report and the completion of the initial investigation.
