BEIJING: Chairman of the Pakistan-China Institute Mushahid Hussain Syed has said the existing Western-led international order is facing challenges due to what he described as inconsistencies and double standards in global affairs.
Addressing the World Peace Forum in China, Mushahid Hussain said the international community was moving towards a new phase where countries of the Global South would play a greater role in shaping global decisions.
He said the changing geopolitical landscape had created the need for a more balanced international system based on equality, mutual respect and cooperation among nations. He argued that developing countries were seeking a greater voice in global affairs and a more inclusive approach to international relations.
While speaking about China’s role in world diplomacy, Mushahid Hussain praised Beijing’s foreign policy approach and said China had emerged as a responsible global power trusted by different sides during periods of regional tensions, particularly in the Gulf region. He highlighted the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and China, describing it as a unique partnership built on decades of cooperation, mutual support and shared interests.
Mushahid Hussain said Pakistan-China relations had developed into an “iron brotherhood” and represented one of the closest bilateral partnerships in contemporary international affairs. He said the ties between the two countries extended beyond traditional diplomacy and covered economic, strategic and regional cooperation.
The remarks came during discussions at the World Peace Forum, where participants examined global security challenges, shifting power dynamics and the future of international cooperation. Mushahid Hussain stressed that greater collaboration among countries of the Global South could contribute to peace, stability and a more representative global system.
