NEW YORK: Pakistan and the World Food Program (WFP) discussed the worsening humanitarian situation in conflict-affected regions during a meeting at the United Nations, where both sides stressed the need for stronger international cooperation to support vulnerable communities.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, met with Acting Executive Director of the World Food Program, Carl Skau, to review the humanitarian challenges facing populations affected by conflict and other emergencies. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation and ensuring that humanitarian assistance reached those most in need.
During the discussions, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad expressed Pakistan’s appreciation for the World Food Program’s longstanding partnership with the country. He acknowledged the organization’s continued support in responding to humanitarian crises and helping communities recover from natural disasters and other emergencies over the years.
The ambassador also highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in key areas that directly affected people’s lives. These included food security, nutrition, climate resilience and disaster preparedness. He said stronger collaboration in these sectors would help communities become more resilient in the face of recurring humanitarian and climate-related challenges.
Carl Skau and Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad exchanged views on the growing humanitarian pressures faced by conflict-affected regions across the world. They noted that rising displacement, food insecurity and climate-related disasters had increased the need for coordinated international action and timely humanitarian support.
Both sides agreed that sustained international engagement remained essential to address the expanding humanitarian needs of affected populations. They stressed that continued support from the global community was necessary to ensure relief operations remained effective and that assistance reached vulnerable families without delay.
