PESHAWAR: Pakistani security forces killed several suspected militants and recovered weapons, ammunition and other equipment during intelligence-based operations carried out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security officials said.
The operations were conducted over the past two months under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam security initiative, which aims to strengthen counterterrorism efforts and improve security in areas affected by militant activity.
Officials said security forces carried out a major operation in North Waziristan, where several militant hideouts were destroyed. During the operation in the Khatti Kili area, security personnel engaged suspected militants and killed several of them, according to security sources.
The forces also recovered a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and other equipment believed to have been used by militants for carrying out attacks. Security officials said several other militants were suspected to have been injured during the exchange of fire.
The operation was carried out after intelligence reports identified the presence of militant elements in the area, officials said. They added that security personnel took special measures to ensure the protection of civilians and minimize any possible risk to the local population during the action.
North Waziristan has remained a key focus of Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations due to the presence of militant networks in the region. Security forces have conducted repeated intelligence-based operations in the tribal districts to target armed groups and prevent attacks.
Officials said the latest operations were part of a wider campaign to dismantle militant infrastructure and restore lasting peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They added that security forces would continue pursuing militants involved in violent activities and would maintain pressure through intelligence-led actions.
The authorities said the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative was focused on improving coordination between security institutions and strengthening efforts against terrorism. They maintained that operations would continue until militant networks were effectively neutralized.
The security situation in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has remained a major challenge, with authorities reporting an increase in militant attacks in recent years. Security forces have repeatedly stated that intelligence-based operations are being prioritized to target militant groups while limiting disruption to civilian life.
