SHAHEED BENAZIRABAD: The Fast Rural Development Program (FRDP) has launched the HOIFA Heatwave Response Project with an inception workshop aimed at strengthening preparedness for extreme heat and improving coordination among key stakeholders in Shaheed Benazirabad.
The workshop opened with a welcome address by FRDP Project Coordinator Nazish Samo, who highlighted the organization’s experience in humanitarian assistance, disaster risk reduction, climate resilience and community development across Sindh.
She reaffirmed FRDP’s commitment to working closely with government institutions and local partners to protect vulnerable communities from climate-related disasters.
Presenting the project, FRDP representative Samiullah Mahar outlined its objectives, implementation strategy and key interventions.
He said the initiative would focus on raising public awareness, strengthening community engagement, distributing heatwave response kits and improving coordination among district authorities to enhance preparedness for extreme weather.
Participants stressed the need for coordinated planning, timely dissemination of heatwave advisories and sustained public awareness campaigns.
They also called for preventive measures to protect vulnerable groups, including outdoor workers, traffic police personnel, street vendors, hawkers, children, women and older people.
The workshop was attended by the District Health Officer of Shaheed Benazirabad, the Project Manager of PPHI, representatives of Rescue 1122, the Traffic Police, civil society organizations, the local Press Club, the Hawkers Association and officials from other relevant departments.
The participants welcomed FRDP’s initiative and pledged their full cooperation for the successful implementation of the project. They said close collaboration between government departments, emergency response agencies, civil society organizations and local communities would be vital to reducing the impact of extreme heat events.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks and a shared commitment to strengthen heatwave preparedness and build more resilient communities across Shaheed Benazirabad.
