ISLAMABAD: Ten terrorists were killed in separate security operations in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to Pakistani security officials, as authorities continued operations against armed groups in the two provinces.
In Balochistan, three terrorists were killed and four others wounded during a search and sanitization operation in the Kambila and Asimabad areas under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3. Officials said 12 suspects were detained during the operation. Security forces also dismantled terrorist hideouts after clearing an area covering about 68 square kilometers.
The operation was conducted as part of efforts to disrupt terrorist networks and prevent attacks in the region. Officials said sanitization and clearance activities were continuing in the affected areas after the search operation.
Separately, seven terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Hangu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 7 August, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations. The military said the terrorists belonged to what it described as the Indian-backed Fitna al-Khawarij. It alleged that the group had been involved in attacks and the killing of civilians.
An exchange of fire took place during the operation. Captain Hamza Ikram, 27, was killed while leading his troops, according to the military. Security forces recovered weapons and ammunition from the terrorists following the operation. The military said the recovery indicated the terrorists had been equipped to carry out further attacks.
The operations in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were part of continuing security efforts aimed at identifying terrorist networks, clearing suspected hideouts and disrupting planned attacks. Officials said sanitization operations were still under way in both areas.
Security personnel were conducting further searches to ensure that no terrorists or suspected hideouts remained in the cleared locations. The latest operations came as Pakistan continued to face security challenges in parts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Authorities have maintained that intelligence-led operations and coordinated searches were necessary to prevent terrorist groups from regrouping. The security forces said their operations would continue until the areas were fully cleared and remaining threats were dealt with.
