KARACHI: Dr Sham Sunder K. Advani, Pakistan People’s Party Sindh leader and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister, extended warm greetings to the Hindu community on Diwali, highlighting the festival as a celebration of light triumphing over darkness, knowledge overcoming ignorance, and good prevailing over evil. The PPP leader underlined the festival’s enduring religious and cultural significance, noting that it commemorates historic and spiritual events such as Lord Ram’s return from exile and Lord Krishna’s victory over the tyrant King Kansa.
In his message, Dr Advani described Diwali as a festival that goes beyond its rituals, representing joy, happiness, and love. He emphasized the social aspects of the celebration, noting that people share sweets, wear new clothes, visit each other’s homes, and perform prayers that focus on peace, harmony, and the well-being of humanity. According to him, these practices help reinforce bonds within communities and cultivate a spirit of mutual respect and understanding across religious and social divides.
Dr Advani also drew attention to the significance of Diwali as the New Year for many in the Hindu community. He described it as a symbol of new beginnings, hope, and positivity, a time when individuals and families reflect on the past year while looking forward to opportunities ahead. He said the festival embodies values that are universal, such as compassion, generosity, and the promotion of social cohesion, serving as a reminder that unity and goodwill are essential for a harmonious society.
By extending his greetings, Dr Advani reaffirmed the commitment of the provincial government and the PPP to celebrate and respect Pakistan’s diverse cultural and religious traditions. He expressed hope that Diwali would inspire continued solidarity, tolerance, and understanding among all communities, strengthening the social fabric of Sindh and the country at large, and ensuring that the values of peace, justice, and harmony are upheld in everyday life.
