Experts stress knowledge and skills to tackle growing digital threats

    By Imtiaz Hussain

SUKKUR: The Institute of Computer Science at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur recently hosted a seminar titled “Cyber Security: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities,” emphasizing the growing importance of safeguarding digital infrastructure in an increasingly connected world. The event, organised under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Samina Rajper, Director of the ICS, and supported by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk and Dean Prof. Dr. Noor Ahmed Shaikh, opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran, setting a solemn tone for the proceedings.

The keynote address was delivered by Mohammad Akram Mughal, Deputy Director of Network Security at NCCIA Headquarters in Islamabad. He provided a comprehensive overview of current cyber threats, highlighting the skills and knowledge required to combat malicious activities and protect sensitive information in both academic and professional settings. Mughal stressed that as digital systems become more integrated into daily life, the demand for competent cyber security professionals is rising sharply.

Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Mahar coordinated the seminar, which drew participation from a wide range of faculty members, including Prof. Dr. Hidayatullah Shaikh, Prof. Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, Dr. Rafaqat Hussain Arain, Dr. Asad Kehar, Dr. Hainf Tunio, and Dr. Rozina Chohan. Faculty and students engaged in discussions about emerging challenges in the cyber domain, practical strategies for risk mitigation, and ways to build robust digital defence mechanisms.

The seminar aimed to provide students with hands-on knowledge and enhance their professional competencies, preparing them to address complex cyber security challenges in both academic research and industry settings. Organizers emphasized the need for continuous learning and adaptation in the rapidly evolving digital landscape, encouraging participants to develop a proactive approach to protecting data, networks, and critical digital infrastructure
