ISLAMABAD: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s army chief, reiterated that the country would make no compromise on its territorial integrity or the safety of its citizens, warning that a rapidly shifting regional environment demanded focused national attention.
Speaking to participants of the 27th National Security Workshop, Munir highlighted the complex challenges facing the nation, including rising geopolitical competition, cross-border militancy, and the growing prevalence of hybrid warfare.
Despite what he described as pressures from foreign-backed terrorism and an “information war,” Munir said Pakistan’s armed forces remained steadfast in their mission to protect the country’s security. He commended the intelligence agencies and law enforcement bodies for demonstrating professionalism and commitment in the execution of their duties, asserting that these institutions were integral to maintaining national resilience.
“Pakistan is an important country that seeks to secure its rightful place in the world,” he told delegates. “Our greatest strength is national unity. God willing, we will defeat all hostile designs of our enemies.” He underlined that the protection of Pakistan’s borders and the security of every citizen were the army’s highest priorities, and that there would be no concessions in these areas.
Munir also emphasized the importance of coordination between military and civilian authorities. He said that lasting peace, stability, and prosperity could only be achieved through cooperative national efforts and stronger institutional harmony, framing the challenges ahead as a collective responsibility for both government and society.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), participants of the workshop visited the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where they were briefed on both regional and internal security dynamics. Delegates were updated on national measures to combat illegal activities, including smuggling, narcotics trafficking, and organized crime networks.
Officials also shared progress on enhanced border controls and the ongoing repatriation of undocumented foreign nationals, reflecting a broad approach to national security that extended beyond conventional defence. Organized by the National Defence University, the workshop brought together parliamentarians, senior civil and military officials, and representatives from academic and social sectors.
Designed to foster dialogue on emerging threats and strategic priorities, the event underscored Pakistan’s efforts to prepare its institutions and leaders for a rapidly changing security landscape.
