KARACHI: Dr Farooq Sattar, senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement–Pakistan (MQM-P), has said that if residents of Karachi take to Shahrah-e-Faisal in protest, Sindh’s landlords will be compelled to leave their seats of power. He added that the offices of the Sindh Chief Minister and Karachi Mayor will soon be occupied by the city’s sons and daughters.
Dr Sattar made the remarks during a public outreach tour in Malir Town ahead of MQM-P’s “rights-based” public gathering scheduled for 30 November. He met with local residents, union representatives, business leaders, and community figures to brief them on development projects and party initiatives.
He announced that, thanks to MQM-P leadership and its governors, a Rs40 billion federal development package for Karachi and Hyderabad is being implemented. Under this plan, each National Assembly constituency will receive Rs5.2 billion for roads, parks, pumping stations, sewerage rehabilitation, and other infrastructure projects. Details of these initiatives will be shared at public rallies.
Dr Sattar said the party had previously held a successful gathering in Surjani Town and is now extending outreach to Malir Town, where residents will be informed about local development projects. He also announced that 500 IT courses under the Governor’s initiative will be offered for Malir’s youth.
The MQM-P leader reiterated his criticism of powerful landlords and feudal figures, stating that previous administrations had failed to complete major water projects like K-IV. He claimed that under MQM-P’s mayoral oversight, K-II and K-III projects were successfully completed, and the K-IV project was returned to the federal government. He promised that by next year Karachi residents would receive 260 million gallons of water.
