LONDON: British courts delivered a further setback to former military officer and YouTuber Adil Raja, ordering him to issue a public apology to retired Brigadier Rashid Nasir and comply with substantial financial penalties.

Under the ruling, Raja must ensure that the apology remains prominently visible for 28 days on his X, Facebook, YouTube, and personal website pages. In addition, he is required to pay £310,000 in damages and court costs by 22 December, with further legal costs to be determined and added to his obligations.

The latest order follows Raja’s unsuccessful defamation case against Brigadier Nasir, which concluded in October when High Court Judge Richard Spearman ruled against him. Raja’s subsequent appeal was also rejected, prompting Nasir to request enforcement of the October decision.

The court confirmed that Raja must pay £50,000 in damages and £260,000 in court costs by the same December deadline, alongside an injunction preventing him from making further defamatory statements. During proceedings, Brigadier Nasir attended court to witness the enforcement of the ruling, while Raja’s legal team appeared on his behalf.

Raja reiterated his intention to challenge the decision, indicating that he plans to appeal to the Court of Appeal. In the original October ruling, the judge had described Raja’s allegations against Brigadier Nasir as “unfounded,” emphasizing that they lacked any factual basis. The decision marked a clear affirmation of Nasir’s legal position, and the latest enforcement order reinforces the court’s insistence on accountability for defamatory public statements.
