KARACHI: The Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ), one of Sindh’s most influential media bodies, hosted a training program for its members on Tuesday, aiming to strengthen journalists’ voices and enhance their digital media skills.
The event, held at the Karachi Press Club, was organized under the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) Asia–Pacific–NED Program, reflecting a growing recognition of the need to adapt traditional journalistic practices to the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The session was led by Madiha Javed Qureshi, Corporate Trainer and Head of Corporate Communication at Bank Alfalah, who conducted a detailed training on digital media. Participants were introduced to strategies for aligning social media with traditional reporting, understanding the impact of digital content, and honing skills in content creation, ethical reporting, and freedom of expression.
KUJ President Aijaz Ahmed and Secretary General Lubna Jerar Naqvi addressed the participants, emphasizing the critical role of digital literacy for journalists in Pakistan. They argued that the convergence of social media and conventional media platforms requires continuous capacity building, and that training programs like this are essential for equipping journalists with the tools to navigate both the opportunities and challenges of online reporting.
Attendees noted that the session provided practical insights into managing digital platforms responsibly while maintaining journalistic integrity. Organizers said such initiatives are part of a broader effort to empower journalists across Sindh, ensuring that media professionals can adapt to changing technologies while upholding ethical standards, freedom of expression, and the role of the press as a pillar of democracy.
