SUKKUR: Sindh’s Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Muhammad Ali Malkani, visited the University of Sindh on Tuesday and held a detailed meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri to discuss strengthening fisheries research and promoting sustainable development across the province.
The discussion focused on enhancing fish production, advancing sustainable development initiatives, and leveraging Sindh’s vast water resources, including freshwater bodies, marine waters, and coastal ecosystems.
The minister highlighted the urgent need to strengthen fisheries science, modern research, and innovation to fully capitalize on these resources, and assured the Vice-Chancellor that the Sindh government would provide full support for fisheries development, research enhancement, and collaboration between academia and government.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Marri briefed the minister on the university’s internationally recognized research achievements in fisheries and aquatic sciences, noting that the institution is home to highly qualified fisheries experts with extensive international experience, positioning it to play a key role in sectoral reform and sustainable development.
