KARACHI: Karachi’s Mayor and Chairman of the Water Corporation, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, visited the head office of the Water Corporation on Wednesday to review its operations and assess the resolution of citizens’ complaints.
During the visit, he toured the call center and was briefed on how complaints related to manholes, water supply, sewage, and other civic issues were being handled across the city. In a hands-on approach, Mayor Wahab personally contacted residents who had registered complaints via telephone.
Many citizens expressed their appreciation for the swift response, with their issues reportedly addressed within 24 hours. The Mayor encouraged residents to continue reporting water and sewerage problems, including faulty manhole covers, through the dedicated helpline 1334, stressing that community feedback is crucial for improving civic services.
Detailed figures presented during the visit highlighted significant progress in addressing complaints across Karachi’s districts. In Malir, 489 out of 701 complaints were resolved, while Korangi saw 2,524 out of 4,200 addressed.
East Karachi reported 7,177 out of 7,939 complaints resolved, South 1,213 out of 1,378, West 807 out of 2,170, Kemari 812 out of 982, and Central Karachi 8,038 out of 10,927. Out of a total of 27,912 complaints received citywide, 21,060 had been resolved within 24 hours, reflecting a resolution rate of more than 75 percent.
Mayor Wahab acknowledged that while a majority of issues had been swiftly addressed, some complaints involved more complex infrastructure challenges that would require additional time and resources to resolve.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring effective water and sewerage services for all citizens, emphasizing that the city government remained focused on responding promptly to public concerns and improving overall urban management.
