DADU: In Dadu, the hearing of the high-profile triple murder case involving the killings of Umm-e-Rubab Chandio’s father, grandfather, and uncle stretched for seven hours on Friday at the Model Criminal Trial Court before being adjourned until December 19.
The proceedings were postponed after the defence counsel failed to complete his final arguments, prompting the court to grant additional time. Complainants Pervaiz Chandio and Ume Rubab Chandio appeared in court with their legal team, while accused MPA Sardar Ahmed Chandio, MPA Burhan Khan Chandio, and other nominated suspects were also present.
The delay came after the defence representing Sardar Ahmed Chandio requested further time to conclude its submissions. Speaking to the media after the hearing, Ume Rubab Chandio framed the case as more than a personal tragedy, describing it as a fight for justice for thousands affected by Sindh’s entrenched feudal system.
Umm-e-Rubab Chandio condemned the sardari structure as a “malignant curse” that continues to devastate families and stressed that holding powerful feudal figures accountable would serve as a deterrent to future crimes. Chandio also voiced concern over judicial delays, arguing that prolonged proceedings discourage ordinary citizens from seeking justice.
Acknowledging the risks of confronting influential figures, Umm-e-Rubab Chandio likened the struggle to “standing with a shroud on one’s head,” yet affirmed her commitment to resisting oppression. She expressed confidence in the judiciary, asserting her belief that the court would ultimately deliver justice for her family and others affected by systemic abuses.
