KARACHI: Secretary General of Mohajir Qaumi Movement–Haqiqi (MQM-H) Shahid Faraz has voiced serious concern over the surge in street crimes across Karachi, describing the situation as increasingly alarming and threatening for ordinary citizens.
Speaking to a delegation of journalists from Karachi Press Club at the residence of party chairman Afaq Ahmed, Faraz highlighted that reports from media, police records, and emergency services such as Chhipa, Edhi, and other ambulance providers confirm daily incidents of robbery, looting, and violent resistance that have led to loss of life. He noted that crimes such as mobile phone and motorcycle snatching frequently result in shootings, while despite thousands of cases on record, arrests and convictions remain extremely low.
Faraz stressed that many victims die on the spot or en route to hospitals, underscoring the public’s sense of insecurity and the lack of effective state protection. He criticized political elites and influential individuals for living under heavy security while remaining detached from the fears and hardships of ordinary citizens.
The MQM-P has called on the Sindh government and law enforcement agencies to take immediate and effective action against street crime, ensure transparent accountability of police performance, and prioritize the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
