KARACHI: The Sindh government has said it will put in place comprehensive security and traffic arrangements for the Christian community across the province during Christmas, following a request by its spokesperson, Sukhdev Hemnani.
In a letter to the inspector general of police, Hemnani, who is also a member of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, called for heightened vigilance and coordinated planning to protect churches, places of worship and communal spaces. He cited constitutional guarantees including the right to life and liberty, freedom of religion, equality before the law and the protection of minorities.
In response, the IG Sindh has directed all relevant authorities to implement preventive and foolproof security measures, with all deputy inspectors general and senior superintendents of police instructed to roll out detailed security and traffic management plans.

Hemnani said safeguarding religious minorities and their places of worship was a constitutional obligation and a core priority of the provincial government. He added that under the leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party chair Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Sindh administration continued to take proactive steps to protect minority rights and promote interfaith harmony.
He said the government would remain fully vigilant throughout the Christmas period, with all departments instructed to ensure a peaceful and secure environment across Sindh.
