KARACHI: Further shortcomings in the police investigation into the death of young Karachi businessman Mir Raza have emerged, with officials acknowledging that key forensic and digital evidence had not been collected several days after the incident.
Investigating officials said geofencing of the crime scene had not been carried out despite several days having passed. Police had also not obtained Mir Raza’s mobile data record, which could potentially help investigators establish his movements and contacts before his death.

Officials said the forensic examination of Mir Raza’s smartwatch had also not been conducted.
The new investigation team has now begun steps to address the gaps. Officials said geofencing of the crime scene would be carried out on the day, while details of the mobile data record were being obtained.
Investigators have also collected information about a guesthouse near the location where Mir Raza’s body was found, which has emerged as a point of interest in the investigation.
The new team has contacted the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and plans to submit a formal request seeking information related to Mir Raza.
According to investigators, the request is intended to establish whether Mir Raza had received any threats before his death or had been facing any form of online intimidation.
The latest developments come as a new investigation team reviews the handling of the case and examines evidence that was either overlooked or not collected during the initial stages of the inquiry.
