SUKKUR: Sindh police chief Javed Alam Odho has called for a thorough investigation into the death of Mir Raza, describing the case as a tragic incident and saying the authorities must ensure that it is properly resolved.
Speaking at a press conference in Sukkur, Odho said a new committee had been formed to investigate the case and would begin work on the evidence available.

He said there appeared to have been a communication gap surrounding the case and stressed that the investigation must establish the facts. “We are not policymakers; our responsibility is to enforce the law,” he said, adding that the truth would emerge through the investigation.
Odho described the case as sensitive and said both the police and Sindh government wanted it to be handled properly. He said confusion had increased because of differences in the medical-legal findings, with an earlier report by a doctor giving a different account.
He said a new investigation committee had been formed to restore public confidence in the process. The evidence available to the previous committee had been examined according to the information provided to it, but circumstances had since changed.
“Now the evidence has completely changed,” Odho said, explaining that a fresh investigation was therefore necessary. He instructed the new team to maintain open communication with the victim’s family and the media throughout the inquiry.
Earlier reports said an attempt had allegedly been made to burn parts of Mir Raza’s body with acid. Forensic sources reportedly found traces of acid on his shirt.
The Sindh government has also decided to seek a judicial inquiry into the case. Speaking on Geo News programme Naya Pakistan, Sindh law minister Zia Lanjar said a meeting had been held with the chief minister and a decision had been taken to establish a judicial commission.
Mir Raza Ali Khan went missing from the PECHS area on 28 July after leaving home at 4.09am in an online taxi. His body was recovered from Gulistan-e-Johar two days later.
Police officials said the body was found in a severely damaged condition and that he had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. His social media accounts had also reportedly been shut down a day before his body was recovered.
Raza’s father said his son had been due to marry at Bait-ul-Mukarram Mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on 30 August and had been excited about beginning a new chapter in his life.
