KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to establish a judicial commission comprising high court judges to investigate the death of Mir Raza, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said.
Speaking to media Lanjar said a meeting had been held with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to discuss the case, where the decision to form the judicial commission was taken.
“We have decided to form a judicial commission and will have the case investigated by high court judges,” Lanjar said.
The provincial home minister said the government stood with the public and was committed to ensuring justice for Mir Raza’s family. Lanjar also said the investigation team had been changed, with DIG Amir Farooqi appointed as its head. He said the family had been told that any police officer they recommended could be included in the investigation team.
He said the investigation had so far found no evidence suggesting that a high-profile personality was behind the case, but described the formation of a judicial commission as necessary. The minister also criticised the handling of the postmortem report, saying Dr Samia should have informed the government and her senior officers if she believed the postmortem had been conducted incorrectly.
Lanjar said any shortcomings identified in the postmortem should have been reported through the relevant official channels. He added that the failure to raise such concerns with senior officers had led to criticism of the government. The decision comes amid growing questions surrounding the investigation into Mir Raza’s death and calls from the family for a transparent inquiry.
