ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepening engagement with Iran across key priority sectors, as he met the Iranian ambassador in Islamabad amid a renewed emphasis on regional cooperation and security.
Dar made the remarks during a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Raza Amiri Moghaddam, who called on him to review the state of bilateral relations and ongoing institutional engagement between the two neighboring countries.
Officials said the discussion focused on strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, reflecting Islamabad’s stated policy of enhancing ties with regional partners through sustained dialogue and structured mechanisms.
During the meeting, the Iranian ambassador briefed the deputy prime minister on progress achieved through various bilateral institutional frameworks established to promote cooperation in a range of fields.
These mechanisms, officials noted, were aimed at translating political understanding into practical outcomes, particularly in trade, energy, border management and people-to-people contacts. Both sides acknowledged the importance of maintaining momentum through regular high-level exchanges.
Ambassador Moghaddam conveyed his condolences over the recent blast at an Imambargah in Islamabad, expressing sympathy with the families of the victims and solidarity with the people of Pakistan.
Dar strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on peace and social harmony. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, stressing that such acts would not weaken the country’s determination to confront extremism.
