KARACHI: Sohail University and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening ties between academia and the business community, in a move intended to promote research, innovation and skills development in Sindh.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony held in the presence of the governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, who welcomed the initiative and described it as a step towards bridging the long-standing gap between education and industry. He said closer collaboration between universities and the private sector was essential to equip young people with skills that matched market needs and to support sustainable economic growth.
Under the terms of the MoU, Sohail University and KCCI agreed to work together on joint research projects, industry-linked internships and a range of training programs designed to provide students with practical exposure to the business environment. Officials said the partnership would help align academic curricula with industry requirements and create pathways for students to transition more smoothly into the workforce.
The ceremony was attended by KCCI president M. Rehan Hanif and Sohail University’s director of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization, Dr Asma Tabassum, who signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Tabassum underlined the importance of hands-on experience for students, saying that engagement with industry was critical for nurturing innovation and applied research.
