ISLAMABAD: A high-level humanitarian conference convened at the National Emergencies Operation Center in Islamabad brought together key stakeholders to advance Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
The session was co-chaired by Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Mohamed Yahya, signaling close collaboration between national authorities and international partners.
During the conference, the NDMA and the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office finalized a formal calendar of activities prioritized for all humanitarian actors, establishing a coordinated framework designed to strengthen national readiness through structured planning, timely action, and a synergetic response mechanism.
The event drew representatives from federal ministries, UN agencies, and both national and international NGOs, who collectively agreed on a Composite Response Matrix to guide coordinated disaster preparedness and response. Participants were briefed on the NDMA’s Pakistan Disaster Lense and Global Disaster Lense for 2026, advanced analytical tools designed to forecast hazards and assess risks with up to 95 percent accuracy for ten months in advance.
These tools, officials said, will support anticipatory planning, risk-informed decision-making, and proactive interventions to safeguard communities across the country. Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Malik emphasized the importance of technology-enabled risk communication systems and interoperable coordination platforms, describing them as essential pillars for disaster risk reduction and adaptation at the community level.
