LAHORE: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has issued bailable arrest warrants for Sanam Javed, a prominent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist, in connection with a case involving rioting and arson. The case, registered at Shadman Police Station in Lahore, led to the issuance of arrest warrants after Javed failed to appear in court as summoned. The ATC also issued warrants for another individual, Rubina Jameel, as per the order of ATC Judge Khalid Arshad.
Sanam Javed’s legal troubles have been ongoing. Last month, a division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) dealt with a case against her related to the May 9, 2023 riots in Gujranwala. Despite several court releases, Javed’s series of arrests continued. After her release from Gujranwala jail, she was promptly detained by Islamabad police and handed over to Balochistan authorities, who were en route to Quetta. However, the Islamabad High Court intervened, prohibiting her transfer out of Islamabad. This latest development underscores the ongoing legal challenges faced by Sanam Javed and highlights the continuing scrutiny and enforcement actions related to the May 9 riots and associated cases.
