SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A senior leader of the National Democratic Movement, Syed Muhammad Wazir, said ongoing tensions at the Pak-Afghan border in the Angoor Adda area had severely affected the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe living on both sides of the frontier.
He said that over recent months, forces from Pakistan and Afghanistan had exchanged mortar fire and used heavy weapons, causing significant hardship for the local population.
He described it as deeply unfortunate that civilians were bearing the brunt of the clashes.
Residents of Angoor Adda and nearby villages were living in fear and uncertainty, facing serious difficulties in their daily lives. Several mortar shells had reportedly landed on residential houses, causing disruption and distress.
Wazir said the tribal population, which had no involvement in the conflict or any political or military interest, was suffering the consequences of rising tensions between the two countries.
He added that the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe was settled on both sides of the border and remained trapped in the ongoing cross-border situation.
He urged both countries to take serious notice of the issue and adopt immediate measures to protect civilians from the impact of the conflict, calling on authorities to prevent further suffering in the region.
