MEHAR: A long-running dispute over the division of agricultural land, shops, houses and plots among cousins, uncles and nephews in village Juma Lakhair village near Mehar has remained unresolved, leading to rising tensions between the families. One group staged a protest demanding justice.
Residents of the village, Sajid Hussain Lakhair and his father Abdul Majeed Lakhair, reached the National Press Club Mehar and protested, saying the disputed property was their ancestral inheritance.
They alleged that their relatives, including Altaf Lakhair, Liaquat Lakhair, Ejaz Lakhair, Aftab Lakhair, Sadaqat Lakhair, Abdul Rasheed Lakhair and Abdul Aziz Lakhair had illegally occupied the property and were denying them their rightful share.
They further claimed that when they demanded their share, the accused attacked them, leaving Abdul Majeed Lakhair, Iftikhar Lakhair and Hamid Hussain Lakhair injured.
The protesters said that when they approached Radhan Police Station to register a case, they were allegedly asked for a bribe of Rs500,000. Upon refusal, they said, their complaint was not registered and the police sided with the influential accused.
They added that the dispute had been ongoing since 2009. They said a settlement had been reached four days earlier in the presence of Sardar Mudassar Altaf Khokhar, under which it was decided that they would be given Rs3 million, a shop in New Goth town, and a reconciliation gathering would be held. However, they alleged that the other party violated the agreement, forcibly harvested their crops, occupied their houses and expelled them from their homes.
They also alleged that police in Radhan and New Goth, under influence of the accused, were attempting to arrest them on false charges and register fabricated cases.
The protesters appealed to the SSP Dadu to take notice of the situation, provide protection and ensure justice.
