KARACHI: A delegation of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s Central Standing Committee on Women Education and Training visited the Governor House.
The visiting members held a meeting with Governor of Sindh, Nihal Hashmi, to discuss the growing challenges faced by women entrepreneurs and the need for stronger institutional support for women’s education and vocational training across the province.
The delegation attended the meeting under the leadership of Dr Akram Sultan, convener of the FPCCI Central Standing Committee on General Health, while the discussions were led by Shamsa Jabeen Jawed Ahmed, Convener of the FPCCI Central Standing Committee on Women Education and Training. Senior committee members, including Seema Shahbaz, Dr Nadia Mushtaq, Sultan Mehmood Ghaznavi, Asma Amir and Dr Samina Khalil, also participated in the session.
The delegation also highlighted the widening digital divide, noting that a lack of technical and online business skills had prevented many women from benefiting from the rapid shift towards e-commerce and digital trade. Members of the committee said vocational training opportunities for women remained insufficient in several districts of Sindh, especially outside major urban centers, where social and cultural barriers continued to restrict women’s economic participation.
Governor Nihal Hashmi appreciated the efforts being made by the committee and acknowledged the importance of women’s economic empowerment for the province’s broader development. He assured the delegation that the proposals and recommendations presented during the meeting would be reviewed carefully and that provincial authorities would extend support to sustainable initiatives aimed at improving education, skills development and entrepreneurship opportunities for women in Sindh.
