UPPER SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Several government vehicles belonging to the local government and rural development department and the tehsil municipal administration were found lying unused for a long period in Makeen, raising concerns after reports that hundreds of thousands of rupees had been withdrawn from the public exchequer in the name of repairs and fuel.
According to sources, the vehicles had remained parked for a long time within the premises of the tehsil building and were not being used for any form of public service. Despite this, expenses were regularly shown against them, giving rise to fears of financial irregularities and administrative negligence.
Local residents said the area was already facing a lack of basic municipal services, including sanitation, drainage and road repairs, while public resources were being wasted in this manner. They said many of these issues could be addressed if the vehicles were repaired and made operational.
Community elders expressed serious concern over the situation and called on higher authorities to take immediate notice and order a transparent investigation. They said showing continuous expenditure on non-functional vehicles was a serious matter and those involved should be held accountable.
They also demanded that the vehicles be repaired without delay and brought into use for public welfare, sanitation campaigns and other municipal services to ease the difficulties faced by residents.
Observers noted that development resources in tribal districts were already limited, and inefficient use of government assets and possible financial mismanagement were raising questions about official performance. Public circles expressed hope that the relevant authorities would act promptly on the issue.
