TEHRAN: An Iranian official said Tehran rejects any negotiations aimed at forcing Iran into surrender, amid ongoing regional tensions and stalled diplomatic efforts.
Speaking to a news agency, the official said that the United States must abandon its policy of pressure and threats before any meaningful diplomatic process can resume. He added that mediation efforts by Pakistan are continuing to help restore dialogue and ease tensions around key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.
The official also claimed Pakistan was attempting to facilitate the release of an Iranian-flagged vessel allegedly held by US forces, while accusing Washington of creating new obstacles instead of de-escalating the situation.
Separately, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said the attack on commercial vessels and the taking of crew members hostage amounted to a serious violation of the ceasefire. He also described the blockade of Iranian ports as an act of war and a breach of the truce agreement.
On the other hand, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said President Donald Trump had made it clear that the US Navy would continue enforcing restrictions and maintaining pressure on Iranian maritime activity.
