ISAMABAD: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a high-level meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, as both sides exchanged views on regional developments and reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, stability and continued bilateral engagement, according to a statement issued by the military’s media wing.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Field Marshal Munir, who serves as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, met the Iranian president during his visit to Pakistan, where discussions focused on evolving regional dynamics and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation in a volatile geopolitical environment.
According to the statement, President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s “constructive and responsible role” in promoting dialogue and encouraging peaceful resolution of disputes across the region. He also acknowledged Islamabad’s efforts to facilitate understanding among regional stakeholders at a time of heightened tensions, suggesting that Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach had contributed to easing pressure in several ongoing flashpoints.
Field Marshal Munir reiterated Pakistan’s “unwavering commitment” to regional peace and stability, underscoring the importance of sustained engagement between neighbouring countries. Both sides, the ISPR added, agreed on the need to maintain close consultations on matters of mutual interest and to strengthen coordination on regional security and political developments.
The meeting took place during President Pezeshkian’s state visit to Pakistan, which has been framed by both governments as part of a broader effort to deepen bilateral ties and expand cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, energy, border security and regional connectivity.
