KARACHI: The government has increased the price of jet fuel for commercial aircraft, a move that is expected to raise operating costs for airlines and potentially affect air travel expenses across the country.
According to aviation sources, the price of jet fuel has been increased by Rs53.11 per litre. With this revision, the new price has reached Rs441.66 per litre. The adjustment applies to commercial aviation fuel used by both domestic and international airlines operating in Pakistan.
Officials said the increase is linked to global oil price fluctuations and changes in the international energy market. They added that jet fuel pricing is directly influenced by crude oil rates, currency exchange pressure and import costs, which have all contributed to the latest hike.
Industry experts believe that the rise in fuel costs will significantly increase airline operational expenses, including flight handling, maintenance and ticket pricing pressure. Airlines may now face difficulties in maintaining current fare structures, especially on longer routes where fuel consumption is higher.
Aviation analysts also warned that sustained increases in fuel prices could impact passenger demand and overall competitiveness of the aviation sector. However, they noted that airlines may try to absorb some of the cost in the short term while adjusting their pricing strategies gradually.
