KARACHI: The chairman of the All Pakistan Jewellers Manufacturers Association, Muhammad Arshad Khan, met the minister of state for finance, revenue and railways, Bilal Azhar Kayani, during a pre-budget consultative meeting held at the Regional Tax Office in Karachi, where he raised key issues facing the city’s jewellery sector.
Representing jewellers, Arshad Khan presented detailed concerns regarding taxation and regulatory challenges, rising business costs and increasing documentation requirements affecting the industry. He requested that a separate session be allocated for the jewellers’ sector so that its specific issues and proposals could be discussed in a comprehensive and focused manner.
Kayani said the concerns highlighted would be taken seriously and immediately referred the relevant matters to the member policy. He assured that a separate meeting with representatives of the jewellers’ sector would be arranged to work towards practical solutions.
The pre-budget meeting lasted more than two hours and was attended by senior officials of the Federal Board of Revenue, including Qazi Hifz ur Rehman, chief commissioner RTO-1 Karachi, Zafar Rafiq, chief commissioner RTO-2 Karachi, Rafiq ur Rehman, Abdul Rehman Khalji, Hasnain Brohi and Amanat Ali Shar, commissioners inland revenue, Bilal Mahmood Jafri, additional commissioner, Ghulam Nabi Shah, deputy commissioner, and Tariq Asad Memon, second secretary at the ministry of information and broadcasting. Member policy Dr Najeeb Ahmed also joined the meeting via Zoom and provided guidance on policy matters.
