NORTH WAZIRISTAN: A series of jirgas between Frontier Corps (South) commanders and tribal elders were held in different areas of South and North Waziristan, focusing on security challenges, public grievances and community development concerns, officials and local sources said.
In one jirga held at Nishpa II in the Jannata area of South Waziristan, tribal elders discussed a recent firing incident at the Kazha post in which a child was injured. Security officials briefed participants on the overall law and order situation and warned that strict action would be taken against individuals involved in anti-state or disruptive activities.
Local elders assured full cooperation with security forces and said they would work alongside authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future and help maintain peace in the region. The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening coordination between the community and security institutions.
In another engagement in Spin Kakai Ragzai, a senior Frontier Corps officer visited the Merghband water source with representatives of Nizar Khel village to address long standing complaints regarding water supply. Following discussions and an on site inspection, both sides agreed on a revised water distribution system aimed at ensuring fair access to clean drinking water for surrounding villages.
Officials said the initiative formed part of broader efforts to resolve basic civic issues through direct consultation with local communities, particularly in remote areas where infrastructure gaps remain a major concern.
Meanwhile, in Barmand area of North Waziristan, another jirga reviewed security and social issues affecting local communities. Security officials stressed that lasting peace depended on continued cooperation with residents, while tribal elders reaffirmed their support for peace and stability efforts in the region.
